Focus Scripture: 2 Corinthians 8: 5 - 9
We talked, last week, about ‘enthusiasm’ and the week before about ‘generosity’. This week, we will talk about ‘transformed giving’. Honestly, I think I should sub-title this “Surrender”, but we’ll get to that in a moment.
At this point in our journey, I pray that the Holy Spirit will guide us into a deeper understanding of these scriptures.
Once again, this is not just about money. Yes, that is the context of the scripture, but I believe that there is a deeper truth to this. What are our resources of which we can claim total and unequivocal ownership/authorship? If we truly believe that God created and designed us, then we must say “there are none.” God has designed you to be you, so we are designed to bring forth the fruits He expects from us. So what are some resources we can give back to God to glorify Him?
How about time? What would it look like, if you tithed your time? That’s about 2 hours and 24 minutes … each day. Would you clock watch? How would you serve God to give Him that time?
Or – how about your talents? Can you turn those on or off?
Gifts … Spiritual gifts? Have you sought to discover how God may want to transform you?
Food? Water? A Place to sleep? Clothing? Sympathy? Empathy? (see Matthew 25: 31 – 46)
Ooh – how about attitude? We’ve been talking about transformed giving … what would happen if we totally surrendered to God and allowed Him to transform our giving of forgiveness? Each week, we pray “forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. We pray it, but do we do it? God’s grace is fueled by forgiveness. Do we not owe Him the earnest effort of establishing an atmosphere of forgiveness? Are you worried about being seen as someone who gets “walked all over?” Is it possible that the Holy Spirit will guide you? After all, Jesus Christ has forgiven us our sins because we believe in Him – and He died on a cross for us. I cannot imagine anything more valuable to receive; how can we possibly not forgive if we are of Christ?
“Father, I pray that You will transform our giving of every resource. In the name of Jesus Christ” -
