Focus Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5: 14 – 17 Part 2
“The old life is gone; a new life has begun.” It is so simple and yet, because we still have a heartbeat and a breath in this world, we have problems … leaving it alone. Our human tendency says, “There has to be more; it cannot be that simple.”
But it is, IF you believe.
In all of us, there is a gap or wound or hole that is “God shaped.” It is there and only He can fill it. If you try to fill it with anything else, it will be disastrous. So, now is the time to stop. Listen. Quiet your heart and soul.
…. Now, did God speak … or did Satan whisper?
How do you know?
Here’s “The thing”; do you or I – alone - possess the necessary discernment to tell the difference?
What should we do? We must realize that the centerpiece of “The old life” is “I’ve got this!” or “I don’t need anyone’s help.” Our pride, our “strength” – these are Satan’s favorite tools.
This is where being a Covenant or Accountability group is critical. The old life is gone, but me must rely on Scripture and each other. Now it is time to do the hard thing, subject ourselves - our lives – to the scrutiny of each other. Have I failed to serve Christ this week? Have I felt close to Him or really distant? What have I read or done … where have I seen God at work?
It is time to start asking these questions on Sundays. I need you to help keep me accountable, because I am human. I believe that Jesus Christ died once – for all of our sins – and He has risen from the dead; Resurrected and Glorified. We have a new life that has begun through the Resurrection; we are the Church, the Body of Christ. Thank you for holding me accountable.
