Passionate Worship

Worship is how we, as the Body of Christ, stay connected and are nourished in His presence.

An important part of our worship services comes from the inspiration and leadership of our Music Ministries.

Our Chancel Choir leads the musical portion of our worship service on a weekly basis. They practice on Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm and there's always an open invitation for anyone to join.

Our Choir Director and Organist is Mary Shields. Mary has served our congregation since 2001 and brings over 25 years of church music experience with her as she leads our choir with enthusiasm and great devotion for Our Lord. She has a wonderfully patient way of bringing out the best in each member of the choir. In addition to these duties, Mary also teaches private piano lessons and is an accomplished seamstress.

Our accompanist is Dr. Henry Orazi. Having studied music for over 30 years and providing private lessons for over 20, Henry brings a wealth of experience and artistry to our worship service. Dr. Orazi is currently the Keyboard Professor at the Manatee School for the Arts, a position he has held since 2013.

The Wesleyan Handbell Choir has a long history of performing for our church worship services  as well as special performances in the surrounding communities. This is a dedicated group that is always ready to welcome newcomers! They practice on Tuesday afternoons at 3:00pm in the bell room, located downstairs. Our church is very fortunate to have a complete set of handbells and handchimes, as well as a diverse library of music.

David and Carolyn Brown serve as the dedicated leaders of this group. They bring years of musical experience, as well as leading, serving and playing with much passion.

Unable to attend church this week? Are you away on vacation? Are you a snowbird and would like to hear the pastor's latest sermon? You're in luck! Go to our MEDIA tab to find your favorite.

Sunday sermons are recorded and posted for your convenience, as well as special services like Easter and Christmas cantatas, Good Friday, etc. While we strive to record every Sunday's message, sometimes life gets in the way.

If you'd like to help this ministry by offering to be a recorder, please contact our webmaster. She would be happy for some assistance and will even provide the recording device!

It is through our senses that we are able to interpret the world around us. When we fully worship God, we us all of the senses that He gives us.

FUMC is a liturgical church, which means we have different seasons within the church. We use visual elements to reflect these seasons.

Banners are a wonderful way to convey a message and invite reflection. Wendy Marble, a member of the congregation and graduate of USF, leads workshops on Christian symbolism and banner making. You will find many samples of her work on this site as well as in our church sanctuary and fellowship hall.

To view a large sampling of her work, visit her presentation, "O Lord of My Heart," on YouTube.
